Coming Soon - 2.0 Update!

Master of the House v2.0 Coming Soon!

Hello, masters! I have some very exciting news to share with everyone who has been playing the game, but first a story!

I finished Master of the House in early 2023. I hadn't drawn any NSFW pixel art before November of 2022, and used MotH as a way to push my limits as a pixel artist and learn how to better represent draw in low resolutions. In my actual life, I'm a game developer who has dreams of eventually going independent, and so I thought sharpening my skills one at a time would be a great way to work toward that goal.

Here's the thing. For my entire college career, I used Unity. For those who don't know Unity is a game engine- a toolbox to make game development more streamlined. A few months ago in late 2023, the company who makes Unity issued a revision to their pricing policy. I don't really think I need to get into the nitty-gritty of the policy here, if you're interested you can look into it yourself, but it boiled down to this: Indie developers would have to pay Unity based on downloads if that game surpassed a certain threshold of generated revenue and downloads. Basically, if lots of people downloaded your game, and you made money off of it, you automatically would owe Unity money.

Now, this game is free. Many people have donated, and I am very thankful, but this project does not (and likely WILL not) ever generate money that would come CLOSE to what Unity proposed. Since then, Unity has rolled back all of their proposed changes and then some, thanks to the independent game developer scene sticking together.

However, I cannot support the use of an engine that can instantly wipe out the livelihood of small development studios in an instant. Even though Unity has rolled back their changes. Even though Master of the House would NEVER be subject to the fees that were demanded. Even though Unity was my main proficiency in game development.

I will gladly start from square one if it means that my work is my own, and so...

Rebuilding From the Ground Up

Master of the House v2.0 and all future versions will be created using Godot 4. Godot is another game engine- like Unity- but Godot is open source, meaning that I will never have to worry about my project's development kit being taken from me. In addition to the new engine, I've been working hard overhauling every sprite in the game with an increased resolution to add more detail. I've also overhauled some existing mechanics and monsters to align the game better with what it was intended to be- A puzzle/strategy game. The victory animations for each maid have been extended into full scenes and now feature dialogue. Finally, with Master of the House v2.0, there will be four additional maids to romance once the original cast is saved.

Upcoming Changes

  • Created using Godot 4
  • Updating every sprite in the base game
  • Increase to base resolution
  • Changes to level rates of existing monsters
  • New stats to add greater depth
  • Full maid/monster scenes rather than single animations
  • Eight total maids to rescue and spend time with

What's Next?

I would love to give you a release date. However, since I'm working in a brand-new engine, I don't yet know the technical pitfalls that will come from the final steps of development... I can confidently say though that I am in the final steps of development. I've got some balancing to do, and a couple of final touches to add here and there. 2.0 will be here soon though, and I hope you are all looking forward to it!

Until then, I thought I'd compile a list of a few of my favorite games that I've been playing recently to keep you busy.

Heroine Conquest by Bad Color - Is a game that heavily inspired MotH. It's got incredible art and is very fun to try to beat your scores.

Drain Mansion by Kredyn - Is a game about escaping from succubus girls. There is a ton of content and lots of great pixel-art animations.

Monster Girl Dreams by Threshold - Is a game about monster girls. Lots of monster girls. Inspired by MGQ, and literally lasts hours.

Maid Idle by phracassado - Is what it says on the tin. Build a tavern with cute maids. Romance them all.

Thank you to everyone who has played, supported, donated, and shared the game with others. It really means a lot to me. I hope that you will enjoy Master of the House v2.0 when it releases!
